MAGGIE BAXTER

Executive Producer / View from the Bay

Words of Wisdom:I think it's important for women to remember that they are in charge of their lives. We need to look inside our hearts and truly ask ourselves what we want in life. The only person who can truly stop you from pursuing your dream is yourself. I encourage women to never be a victim, but instead a leader who can make things happen, both at home and at work. Even on the most trying days, it can be difficult, but it creates a more positive energy and will ignite change for those around you.

Maggie worked fulltime until 1994 and then left to work as an independent contractor in television for ten years so she could off-ramp and on-ramp whenever she wanted and be there for her kids. Maggie took six months off when her son was born in 1996 and again when her daughter was born in 1999 returning to work part-time after both. She was blessed that her clients in television had great respect for her choice to be selective in choosing projects and assignments that would work for her family. Doing this for ten years also kept her connected to the industry, so she could eventually go back fulltime, which she did in 1994 when ABC7 hired her back. Maggie supervises roughly 16 people and a few are women with young families. Maggie supports and encourages her team to find work/life balance. “I work with my team everyday to help them manage their work/family life and encourage these women to talk to me at any time about their thoughts, fears, needs, and successes. Together, we are working to create flexible arrangements so they can be there for their children. Some of these include working from home, coming in late or leaving early, and bringing the children to work.” One of Maggie’s co-workers wrote “Maggie is a perfect example of a working mom who has stepped off the career ladder to raise kids and then re-enter the workplace with confidence and grace.  As a department manager she can relate to the daily struggles/battles that working mothers face.”
