LOUISA SHIELDS

Director of Strategic Development, KIPP Bayview Academy

Words of Wisdom: I strongly encourage moms to carve out the time to evaluate priorities in returning to work and to identify how to meet those priorities. Speak up and ask for what you need!

After ten successful years at Deloitte and Touche and giving birth to her second child, Louisa decided to take a detour from her original goal of becoming a partner and left Deloitte to pursue a career in the non-profit sector. Louisa took a consulting project that she was working on for the school and turned it into a part-time employee position. She is active in her community including serving as co-president of the Burlingame Mother’s Club (a job-share!), and actively supports forums addressing the question of how to blend work and family. One colleague said “Louisa is a woman who takes initiative, decides what she wants in her life and actively designs a plan to get there.  She is determined to feel enriched both in her home and work life...through self-advocacy, vision and clarity on what she does and does not want, Louisa created a part-time job situation where she has met her desires.”
