CORBETTE DOYLE

Chief Diversity Officer, AON Corp

Words of Wisdom: You get what you negotiate. Figure out the business case for the flexibility you need - and then convince the powers-that-be that your solution is mutually beneficial.

Corbette moved to a four-day condensed workweek (still full time) upon the birth of her first child in 1989 with a previous employer. She was then recruited by her current employer, AON, while seven months pregnant with her second child in 1993 and AON honored her four-day work week, one of the only flexible schedules allowed. In 2000, she approached her boss about a three-day condensed full-time work week. He agreed to it "conditionally" - and officially, that is what she still works, though it is now more of a "telecommuting" role 2 days a week than a condensed work week - especially ever since she took on the CDO role last year. A fellow employee said Corbette had helped her create a part-time role when she was frustrated and ready to off-ramp completely and said Corbette is a pioneer at AON with her support of flexible work and “is a champion of bringing on the very best talent and creating a rich and diverse staff.”
